Connecticut-Based NRA Instructors Offering Free Training to Educators

As the national debate continues over whether or not to arm school faculty in an effort to protect children, a group of NRA Certified Instructors in Connecticut are stepping up to offer free training to educators across the state.

RTC Training Center in Bridgeport will now offer the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course free of charge to any Connecticut educator or school faculty member. The training center will reserve two seats per each class up to a week prior to the scheduled class date to allow educators to contact them to enroll.

“RTC is dedicated to teaching firearm safety and self defense as well as advocating our Constitutional rights, particularly the 2nd Amendment,” the group said in their announcement. “In the wake of the recent school shooting in Florida, it is obvious to us that our government is not able to protect our children. Since every single stopgap that has been put into place to prevent this failed miserably, this is even more obvious than ever.

“We have decided to make our own contribution in an effort the make our children safer,” the statement continued. “If (or when) a decision is made that will allow some sort of armed personnel in our schools, we would like to support this cause.”

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course covers gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety.

Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and the NRA Certified Instructor who led instruction.

Connecticut educators and school staff interested in taking advantage of the free training should contact RTC Training Center at (203) 231-2782 or (203) 516-8376, or by email at [email protected]. Learn more about RTC by visiting https://rtcfirearmstraining.com.
