NRA Foundation to Grant $50,000 to Central Pennsylvania Law Enforcement and Outdoors Organizations

FAIRFAX, Va. – The NRA Foundation will grant $50,000 to six central Pennsylvania law enforcement and outdoors organizations that contribute to public safety and promote the outdoor lifestyle through educational activities that encourage youth participation in the shooting sports.

These grants are made possible through NRA Foundation fundraising efforts at NRA’s annual Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, Pa., and continue its tradition of support for the men and women of law enforcement and for educational and recreational youth programs across the country. The NRA's Great American Outdoor Show is now in its sixth year, and more than $245,000 has been granted by The NRA Foundation to central Pennsylvania law enforcement, youth groups and other eligible organizations.

The Susquehanna Township Police Department will receive a grant to purchase officer-worn body cameras. This type of technology may play a valuable role in increasing public confidence, gathering evidence, reducing complaints against and assaults on police officers, supporting officer skill enhancement through the review of performance and more. The NRA is among the nation’s foremost supporters of law enforcement and is proud to continue backing the men and women who selflessly encounter great risk to protect the innocent.

The Pennsylvania American Legion of Wormleysburg will receive a grant to support their State Police Youth Week firearms training course for high school juniors and seniors interested in a career in law enforcement or the military. The class, taught by NRA Certified Instructors, will include classroom time, dry fire exercises and live fire exercises with the M1 carbine.

The York Rifle Range Association Inc. of York will receive a grant to support its Junior Air Rifle Program, which provides opportunities for local youth to learn about firearms safety and marksmanship skills in a structured environment. The York Rifle Range Junior Smallbore Rifle Team will also receive a grant to support its instruction of advanced marksmanship skills to reinforce the theme of good sportsmanship and to continue teaching junior shooters safe firearm handling.

The South Mountain YMCA Camps of Reinholds will receive a grant to support its shooting sports programs, including Archery, BBs, .22 Riflery and Trap. Grant funding will provide new equipment and accessories for these archery and firearms programs through which certified instructors introduce shooting sports to children ages 6-17 in a safe, structured and educational environment.

The Pennsylvania Rifle and Pistol Association Inc. of Annville will receive a grant to expand and support junior shooting programs throughout the state of Pennsylvania and participation in competitions including NRA Championships, Pennsylvania Championships and USA Shooting national events. Grant funding will offset fees and costs associated with these activities in order to increase overall junior involvement in the shooting sports.

The Palmyra Sportsmen’s Association of Annville will receive a grant to support the establishment and promotion of national programs in the Harrisburg area to encourage youth interest in and access to competitive shotgun shooting. Grant funding will be used to help establish opportunities for participation in the NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program for shotgun, the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP), and the Association of College Unions International (ACIU) collegiate clay target shooting.

The success of the Great American Outdoor Show—the world’s largest consumer sports and outdoor show—and the tireless efforts of The NRA Foundation make these grants possible, empowering law enforcement agencies to continue providing invaluable service to local communities and enabling stewards of the outdoor sports lifestyle to continue making a difference in Pennsylvania while safeguarding and improving the future of time-honored outdoor traditions.

The nine-day Great American Outdoor Show returns to the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg Feb. 2-10, 2019, featuring 650,000 sq. ft. of the best the outdoors has to offer.
