NRA to Donate $43,000 to Central Pennsylvania Outdoors Organizations

FAIRFAX, Va. – Through its fundraising efforts at the enormously popular Great American Outdoor Show, the National Rifle Association is donating $43,000 to five central Pennsylvania organizations that promote the outdoor lifestyle through educational and recreational activities.

The 2017 donations continues the tradition of giving to these valuable community partners, following 2016’s donation of $50,000 to similar groups in the region. Donations were made through The NRA Foundation, America’s leading charitable organization in support of the shooting sports.

Hunt of a Lifetime of Harborcreek, Pa., received a $7,000 grant to support their goal of providing unique dream hunting and fishing experiences for youths 21 and under who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses. Shenecoy Sportsmen of McConnellstown, Pa., received a $10,000 grant to support two range improvement and expansion projects. The organization plans to update their archery and rifle ranges, and build a new pistol range complete with steel targets, with grant donations covering material and construction costs. Wildlife For Everyone Endowment Foundation of State College, Pa., received a $4,000 grant to help them support various youth programs throughout the year through the acquisition of an inflatable BB gun range. Harrisburg Hunters and Anglers Association of Harrisburg, Pa., received a $12,000 grant to support their wide variety of youth activities and firearm training programs hosted year-round at their Dauphin County facility. Camp Compass Academy of Allentown, Pa., received a $10,000 grant to supplement social media outreach and public education for their Camouflaging Our Differences initiative, designed to provide real-world outdoors educational experiences to youths and their families from inner cities while highlighting the beauty and significance of diversity.

The success of the Great American Outdoor Show, the world’s largest consumer sports and outdoor show, and the tireless efforts of The NRA Foundation make these charitable contributions possible, empowering stewards of the outdoor sports lifestyle to continue making a difference in their communities while safeguarding and improving the future of time-honored outdoor traditions.

The nine-day Great American Outdoor Show returns to the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg Feb. 4-12, 2017, featuring 650,000 of the best the outdoors has to offer.
