The Truth Is...We Are Freedom's Safest Place

Welcome to Louisville Shannon Watts, where the National Rifle Association is holding its 145th (that's right, one-hundred-and-forty-fifth) Annual Meetings and Exhibits for its 5 million members. Over the next three days, tens of thousands of freedom loving Americans will be celebrating their Second Amendment rights…

Your recent “commentary” is, to put it in nice words, nothing but full of lies.

It would be an injustice to suggest the American people to even bother actually reading in its entirety what you’ve so “carefully” but “deceitfully” crafted, so we’re here to provide the truth.

Shannon Watts says:
The NRA’s agenda to ensure guns for anyone, anywhere, anytime – no questions asked – will be presented without irony, even though guns will be banned from the venue when Trump speaks, and even though the vast majority of NRA members and gun owners support strengthening gun laws.

The Truth is:
The NRA-ILA Leadership Forum where Donald Trump is speaking today is under protection by the United States Secret Service -  who has decided not to allow firearms or knives. The NRA allows lawfully carried firearms to be permitted at all other Annual Meeting venues in accordance with Kentucky law. Try again Shannon.

Shannon Watts says:
While candidate Trump exhorts the crowd to make America great again, we will demand political leaders Make America Safe Again.

The Truth is:
America is safe when law-abiding gun owners have the freedom to exercise their rights. Everyday a law-abiding gun owner is doing more to help save lives, but these stories are rarely told or shared by the mainstream media.

Shannon Watts says:
NRA leadership and the politicians who curry their favor do not speak for the majority of Americans who support the Second Amendment but also believe we have a responsibility to keep guns out of dangerous hands.

The Truth is:
Thank you for recognizing the majority of American people support the Second Amendment, not gun-control activists like you. The NRA was instrumental in creating the National Instant Background Check System and has been a vocal supporter of mental health issues, and continues to work to ensure firearms are not put into the hands of the dangerous or mentally ill.

Shannon Watts says:
To make America safe again, we must continue to go toe-to-toe against the gun lobby’s agenda to weaken the standards for who can carry hidden, loaded guns in public, make it easy for domestic abusers to get their hands on guns, and expand dangerous laws such as Stand Your Ground. We must keep fighting back against NRA proposals to force guns onto college campuses and into classrooms.

The Truth is:
To make America safe again, we must avoid individuals like Shannon Watts who does not believe in our American freedoms. We must keep fighting back against her disgusting rhetoric and continue to ensure that our rights are not infringed, and we are doing what we can to educate, train and protect our future generations.

Shannon Watts says:
The momentum is with the gun safety movement.

The Truth is:
You misspelled “gun-control” with “gun-safety."

Shannon Watts says:
This weekend, we’re putting political leaders from presidential candidates on down on notice (what?): Stand with us to make America safe again – or face the consequences in November.

The Truth is:
This weekend, over 70,000 freedom loving Americans are coming together to celebrate our Second Amendment rights. Stand with the NRA, we are Freedom’s Safest Place.
