Trying to blame guns per se for school shootings and violence in general makes about as much sense as trying to blame arsons on matches.
Guns are merely the instrument chosen by the perpetrator to carry out his evil deed. Law-abiding responsible adult citizens have every right to “keep and bear arms” as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
As with so many other things in life, guns can be used for good or for evil. Trampling all over the rights of legitimate, responsible gun owners is obviously a wrong move.
Parents, as well as law enforcement officials, and society at large need to be more “on the ball” to do their utmost to deny guns to criminals, psychopaths, and any and all other emotionally sick individuals who would potentially plan to use guns with which to do wrong or evil.
There are usually plenty of signs indicating such individuals, often on social media, if responsible individuals stay alert and are willing to say something to someone who can and will intervene appropriately to prevent tragedy. Far too many tragedies have happened that should not have, but did because clear signs that were present were missed or ignored.
Trying to somehow make a scapegoat of the NRA is another totally misguided and wrong move. These stalwart, determined protectors and guarantors of legitimate gun rights are high among the most patriotic, freedom-loving Americans in our country. They want nothing more than peace, protection, security and freedom for all Americans.
