Volunteer of the Week: Michael Whitkanack

This week we recognize Committee Member Michael Whitkanack, volunteer of six years with the Johnson County, Arkansas Friends of NRA.

During his service, Michael sold banquet tickets and tables which raised over $17,000, raised $9,000 in pre and post-event raffles and arranged the underwriting for multiple items totaling $800.

Michael doesn’t hold the position of an officer just yet but “takes on the role of a leader,” NRA Arkansas Field Representative Erica Dunn shared. “He's headed up table sales and donations and has truly supported our program on every level.”

"He is what I call a 'Salt of the Earth' kind of man."Going out of his way for his chapter, Michael has made it to five events this year in addition to his event. He also ensures all the meat for his local event is donated which he and his shooting sports team prepare and serve at the banquet.

As if his passion for the Friends of NRA mission was not vibrant enough, he found a way to exceed all expectations. Michael has a deep respect for law enforcement and makes sure they are supported and recognized for their hard work by presenting them with multiple tables at several local events. He also serves his community by coaching the local youth shooting sports team where he spends numerous hours with the members of the team building their skills and passion for the shooting sports.

"He is what I call a 'Salt of the Earth' kind of man," said Dunn. "Very humble, generous and dedicated in all he sets his mind to pursue. We are blessed to have him in our Friends of NRA Arkansas family.”
