Fairfax, Virginia - October 22nd would have been the 100th birthday of Robert Capa. Born Endre Friedmann, Capa is perhaps the best known combat photojournalist of the 20th Century. Capturing images from the Spanish Civil War, the 1936 Japanese invasion of China, World War II and the First Indochina War.

In recognition of Capa's birthday, and his work, we focus on some of the firearms found in his breathtaking photos. Today that's the Remington Pattern 14 Enfield rifle.

Fairfax, Virginia - Almost 3,000 guns are on display at the National Firearms Museum. What you may not know, however, is that a portion of these guns don't actually belong to the NRA. Some are simply on loan. Such is the case for the subject of this week's Curator's Corner — an 1873 pattern Sharps Rifle.

"This rifle has one of the finest engraving and figuring of wood I've ever seen," said Senior Curator Philip Schreier.

"What we have here is a near mint example of a Red 9 Broomhandle," glowed Senior Curator Philip Schreier. "Broomhandle because of the unique shape of the grip."

Fairfax, Virginia - After spending the past few weeks highlighting guns at NRA's National Sporting Arms Museum at the Bass Pro Shops in Springfield, Missouri, the crew from NRANews returned to National Firearms Museum in Northern Virginia for upcoming episodes of Curator's Corner. Aired Monday afternoons around 5:40pm eastern time on Sportsman Channel, Curator's Corner is a long favorite of most NRANews viewers.

Ticket to Redding, California's Friends of NRA Event

NRA's Philip Schreier shares stories of firearms and Teddy Roosevelt at Friends Event

Redding, California - Just in case you were wondering about Senior Curator Philip Schreier's conspicuous absence from the opening festivities at the National Sporting Arms Museum at Bass Pro, he was off pinch speaking for NRA Past President David Keene.

President Keene was expected to serve as the keynote speaker for last weekend's Redding, CA Friends of NRA Dinner, their 20th Anniversary, but was forced to cancel at the last minute. Who better to pinch hit for the Past NRA President than NRA Museum Senior Curator Philip Schreier. With an overnight bag full of Old Bay & cigars, he lit out for the West coast to arrive the dinner with moments to spare.

"Getting there was quite the experienced," Schreier explained. "Flights were delayed, cancelled and all but disappeared."

Ultimately, it was a light into Sacramento followed by a four hour drive up the coast to Redding that made it all possible. Greeting by a hall filled with Second Amendment enthusiasts, it brought to mind a certain Milwaukee speech given by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1912 and the trouble he experienced on that October day.

Schreier thrilled the sold out crowd of more than 400 supporting with tales of Roosevelt's spech, the Headquarters' Museum as well as the opening of NRA's National Sporting Arms Museum in Springfield, Missouri. ... more on the Schreier's appearance at the Redding, CA Friends of NRA event ...
