2014 National Matches kick off on Ohio's Lake Erie shore

Shooters lined up for the 2013 NRA Long Range High Power Rifle Championships in Port Clinton, Ohio

Fairfax, Virginia – With the first shot ceremony behind us, the 2014 NRA National Rifle & Pistol Championships are officially underway. Considered the top shooting sports event in the country, this year’s matches are expected to bring another summer of top level competition all with the help of title sponsor Remington. The matches, held July 7 through August 10 will be split between the legendary Camp Perry, Ohio, and Bristol, Indiana.

“Remington is one of the most trusted names in the shooting industry and has been involved with the National Rifle & Pistol Championships for a very long time. Fairfax, Virginia - NRA's Coach Education Program is now accepting applications for the 2014 Intermediate Junior Pistol Camp, held June 28 - July 2 at the Canton McKinley Rifle and Pistol Club in Canton, Ohio.

This is an excellent opportunity for young shooters to receive expert training from highly skilled NRA Certified Coaches and develop their marksmanship skills. The camp is also immediately before the 2014 NRA National Pistol Championships at Camp Perry, Ohio, and would be an excellent week of practice for shooters preparing to join the NRA National Matches this summer.

From the Ohio Department of Natural Resources - Young Hunters Harvest more than 6,000 Deer during Youth-Gun Season

Deer hunting courtesy of NRA's American Rifleman magazine Columbus, Ohio - Young hunters checked 6,645 white-tailed deer during Ohio’s two-day youth gun season, Nov. 23-24, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Young hunters were challenged by below-average temperatures and windy conditions during the two-day season.

“Congratulations to all the young hunters who participated and enjoyed Ohio’s youth deer hunting weekend,” said ODNR Director James Zehringer. “I want to thank the parents and adults who took the time to make the weekend a memorable one for the next generation of hunters.”

From the Ohio Department of Natural Resource - Ohio Offers Deer Hunting Season for Youth Hunters

Special Youth Deer Hunting in Ohio Columbus, Ohio – Ohio’s young hunters have the opportunity to pursue white-tailed deer during the state’s 11th annual youth white-tailed deer hunting season on Nov. 23-24, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

The youth deer-gun season is open statewide to hunters holding a valid youth hunting license and a deer permit. Deer can be hunted with a plugged shotgun using slugs, a muzzleloader .38 caliber or larger, a handgun .357 caliber or larger and bows during these two days.

Port Clinton, Ohio - Finding the X ring while taking part in NRA's National Rifle and Pistol Championships can be challenging enough. Finding it from three positions during the smallbore rifle phase of the championships can be even more trying. But Amy Fister, winner of this year's NRA 3-Position Rifle High Woman title, found it with no trouble at all. A surprising result given her wry self description.

"I'm a nerd," she said with a laugh. "I'm very dedicated to my studies."

Fairfax, Virginia - For only the third time in more than 100 years, the NRA National Smallbore Rifle Championships will not be take place at Camp Perry, OH. Instead, the Championships are moving to the Chief Wa-Ke-De Range in Bristol, IN. Nestled amongst a large grove of trees, the Chief Wa-Ke-De Range features a 100 point asphalt covered firing line and plenty of protection from the wind. Located about three hours west of Camp Perry, the range is ideal for smallbore.
