Join the NRA's largest shooting competition and have fun indoors this winter

NRA National Indoor Rifle & Pistol Championships

Fairfax, Virginia - All signed up for the 2014 National Matches? If only it weren't the dead of winter... What if you could find some competitive shooting action now? The answer: the NRA Indoor Rifle & Pistol Championships.

Compiled from sectional tournaments held all over the United States, the Indoor Championships involve thousands of shooters and are the NRA's biggest competition of the year. And between smallbore, air rifle, BB gun light rifle, pistol and air pistol, competitors have a lot of options.

Because the championships are shot postal match-style with all the sectionals, there is a large window for shooters to compete. The Open championship runs from 1/1 - 3/18 and the Junior championship from 1/1 - 4/15.

Kentucky senior opens her range bag for Shooting Sports USA before NCAA Championships

University of Kentucky Wildcat Emily Holsopple

Fairfax, Virginia - Barb Baird of Women's Outdoor News sat down with Kentucky Wildcat Emily Holsopple, one of two seniors on the University of Kentucky rifle team (the other being her brother), to ask the same question she asks every accomplished shooter: What's in your range bag? Watch Emily and the rest of the Wildcats shoot for Kentucky's second national championship in NCAA Rifle next month at the National Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Rifle Championships on the Murray State University campus.

She’s a “wildcat,” this college co-ed named Emily Holsopple, and she’s poised to help bring her shooting team, aka the Kentucky Wildcats, to an NCAA Championship in March when she competes in 50m, 3-Position Smallbore Rifle.

Shooting since the she was 11, this quick study won the Women’s 50m Rifle 3-Position Junior Olympic National Championship at the age of 14 and never looked back. Recruited by the University of Kentucky for its prestigious college shooting team, she also has earned All-SEC Academic Honors. Last year, she won the silver medal in 3-Position at the 2013 National Championships.

How many activities? The NRA sanctions more than 11,000 shooting tournaments and sponsors more than 50 national championships each year.

Crosman’s Benjamin Rogue .357 Air Rifle

Wild, Wooly and Ready for Hogs, Deer and More!

Benjamin Rogue by Crosman

Kevin Reese, outdoor writer extraordinaire and a man who appreciates a good high powered air gun, sent us the following look at Crosman's Benjamin Rogue .357

Is an air rifle enough to stop that next bruiser boar or buck of a lifetime? A quick trip back to the Lewis and Clark expedition would answer that question through proven results; in fact, their single Giradoni air rifle is considered by many to be the REAL gun that won the west. The .46-caliber Girandoni fired up to 40 shots on a single charge and the tube magazine held up to 22 rounds that could be emptied in less than 30 seconds.

Pyramyd Air Gun Range at the NRA convention in Houston

Houston, Texas - Regardless of your age, one of the most fun activities at an NRA Annual Meeting is the Pyramyd Air Gun Range. Located on the third floor in room 310, the range provides the perfect opportunity to plink a few shots off. (And rest your weary legs.)

Sporting the latest and greatest in air rifles and air pistols, this convention center room has been converted to a 10-meter air gun range with over a dozen lanes. Does that sound like fun? Of course it does.

Try the latest air pistols, air rifles during this year's NRA Annual Meeting in Houston

Fairfax, Virginia - In just four days more than 70,000 people are expected to converge on Houston's George R. Brown Convention Center for the 142nd NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits. We're expecting a record-setting crowd of Second Amendment supporters to come out and and enjoy a fun weekend catching up with us - a lot has happened since last year's convention in St. Louis.

With so much to see and do, having fun at the NRA convention can get downright tiring. There are plenty of places throughout the convention center to take a seat and rest your weary legs, but only one where you can do it with an air gun.

Welcome to the Pyramyd Air Range.

Columbus, Ohio - After West Virginia University finished celebrating their school's historic 15th national title in the NCAA Rifle Championships - or more likely took a break from celebrating - the NRA held its 2013 All-American awards banquet.
