The final days of SHOT Show in Vegas and the work ahead

The NRA booth at SHOT Show 2015 in Vegas

Las Vegas, Nevada - The doors to SHOT Show closed around 4pm Friday. The once bustling hallways jammed to the gills with carts, stand ups, and every imaginable version of humanity slowly deconstructed into a waif-like facsimile of an old west ghost town. Booths were broken down, products boxed away, and the remaining inhabitants shanties about like extras from The Walking Dead.

Show veterans properly prepped for the week operated at about 80% efficiency. Rookies, especially that ignored the warnings, were lucky to the 50 mark. You could see it in their eyes. Recovery would take some time.

A quick update from a past-California Rifle & Pistol Association President

Las Vegas, Nevada - It's difficult to miss Tony Montanarella when he enters a room. The square-jawed quasi-hulking California boy taking each step with a deliberate smile he just can't help but deliver. And why not? Things are going well for the past-president of the California Rifle & Pistol Association (CRPA).

"We've got some big plans in mind for 2015, our Year of the Veteran," said Montanarella.

The newlywed Anaheim Police Department Sergeant is fresh on the heels of a success stint as the CRPA President. But that doesn't mean it's time to slow down.

"There's never time to rest on our laurels. We're always doing our best for the membership and fight the good fight in California."

Cabot shows off meteors, mammoths, and affordable luxury at SHOT Show

Damascus steel 1911 with mammoth tooth grips

Las Vegas, Nevada - High quality firearms and Cabot Guns go hand-in-hand. Cabot's President Rob Bianchin has a simple philosophy when it comes to high quality guns. "Life's too short to shoot an ugly gun," he says with a laugh. Utilizing 100% American-made products, the company strives for excellence in every aspect. From the time Cabot starts with raw 4140 billet American steel to the time one of their custom 1911s are complete, it takes a total of four months. Creating the slide and frame alone takes 30 hours per gun. With that time, however, comes extreme precision.

Ballistic shoots for best finished barrel in the industry

Clint Hanson with a Ballistic Advantage rifle at SHOT Show's Media Day in Boulder City, Nevada

Las Vegas, Nevada - Every fan of Shark Tank knows there are a couple of questions you better have answers for; what were your sales for last year, what's your cost per unit, and what's the cost of customer acquisition. It's usually the customer acquisition question that trips people up. But if you follow the path developed by the boys at Ballistic Advantage, you're sure to have a number that's sure to turn even Mr. Wonderful's head.

"You looked like you wanted to shoot something," Head Armorer Clint Hanson told me. "Thought I would wait to for you to experience what a great product we have before telling you."

Ammo company is truly wrapped up in the Second Amendment

2nd Amendment Ammunition

Las Vegas, Nevada - There's no shortage of ammunition makers out there these days. A quick search in the SHOT Show app reveals a total of 165 vendors under the ammo category - and you can be sure that's only a fraction of the companies out there making rounds! With that much competition out there vying to be the supplier that feeds your gun, how do you, as a business, make yourself stand out?

For a company named "2nd Amendment Ammunition," you wouldn't necessarily expect them to be based in Highland, California. I mean, let's face it: California isn't exactly Second Amendment-friendly. Even so, this relatively new company is undaunted; they're truly dedicated to the Second Amendment and making sure everyone knows it.
