Wagan from Texas is youngest, Arkansas' Burd repeats as oldest champ
Houston, Texas - "This morning, we will continue the long standing tradition of recognizing the youngest and the oldest life members in attendance at the NRA Annual Meeting of Members."
Those were the words of NRA President David Keene. In the opening minutes of Saturday's Annual Meeting of Members, the search for the cornerstones of NRA's Life Membership began. Wrangled by Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's littlest members were asked to stand with their parents as LaPierre counted down the years. If we call out the year you were born, please sit down. One by one the numbers dwindled. When he reached 2009, only one pair was still standing.

As they say in Texas, the president’s 90 percent is all hat and no cattle
NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre addressed the crowd at the 2013 NRA Annual Meeting of Members inside the George R. Brown Center in Houston, Texas:
Houston, Texas - At this gathering one year ago, I predicted that our freedom might soon face its greatest threat ever. I spent the past year warning gun owners all over this country that, if re-elected, President Obama would launch an all-out, historic assault against the Second Amendment and the personal freedom of hundreds of millions of law-abiding Americans.

Next weekend marks an impressive first for the staff and members of the National Rifle Association. On April 13, 2013, the first NRA sponsored NASCAR Sprint Cup race will wave the green flag at 7:45pm down in the great state of Texas.
What a great combination.
"The NRA 500 is the latest announcement in the long history of a growing partnership between the NRA, Speedway Motorsports and the NASCAR community," LaPierre said. "NRA members and NASCAR fans love their country and everything that is good and right about America. We salute our flag … volunteer in our churches and communities … cherish our families … and WE LOVE RACING! On April 13, we'll all come together at Texas Motor Speedway."

Sanity has been sequestered in Washington - says NRA's LaPeirre
Washington, DC - On the morning of March 15, 2013, NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPeirre spoke to thousands of students attending the 40th Annual Conservative Political Action Conference. The subject of his speech included Universal Background Checks, mental health records and school safety. The following is a transcript of those remarks.
It’s great to be here today, among so many friends, and I appreciate your warm welcome. As you might imagine, I don’t get invited to many parties in this town. That’s okay. I came to Washington when I was about your age, but I didn’t come here to be popular. I came here to stand for what I believe is true.
The political elites may not like it. The liberal media can keep hating on me. But I’m still standing, unapologetic and unflinching in defense of our individual freedom. They can call me crazy and whatever else they want, but NRA’s nearly 5 million members and America’s 100 million gun owners will not back down — not now, not ever.

Fort Worth, Texas - Earlier this week, Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage announced that the National Rifle Association has agreed to serve as title sponsor for a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the speedway later this year. Now known as the NRA 500, the race will take place on April 13.
"The NRA has been involved in the sport for several years and a partner of Speedway Motorsports, Inc., for many years in various aspects, and this race entitlement is just another extension of that business relationship," Gossage said in a news release. "I suspect we’ll sell a lot of tickets to their members and folks who support their position on America’s rights and freedoms and the Second Amendment."
