Outdoor enthusiasts were greeted with a special treat last weekend as they visited a Cabela’s store. How? It was NRA Weekend!
Cabela’s and NRA partnered over seven years ago in a joint effort to host NRA Weekend events at stores nationwide which include giveaways, workshops, an NRA membership drive, product demonstrations, additional discounts and deals, and food!
A new, yet familiar, face was present among the excitement of the weekend festivities – Eddie Eagle! The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program recently celebrated a milestone reaching over 30 million children with its important safety message: STOP! Don’t touch. Run away. Tell a grown-up., and joined in on the celebration for the first time.
Eddie’s safety materials were present at each Cabela’s store where program volunteers had the opportunity to speak with children, parents, even grandparents, about gun accident prevention. Here they were able to share Eddie’s safety message and support materials including storybooks, sing-along video, and more to take home.
“The conversation about safety doesn’t stop after an event Eddie’s at,” said National Community Outreach Department Manager Eric Lipp. “It’s something that should be revisited frequently and the Eddie Eagle program helps lead that conversation. The message is simple, easy to remember, and fun and engaging for kids to learn and retain. We were more than thrilled to have the program at each store.”
Whether visiting Cabela’s in Christiana, Delaware or Union Gap, Washington, families from coast to coast had the opportunity to meet and learn about Eddie and his important safety message – many for the first time.
“It was great to have Eddie at our store,” said Cabela’s Marketing Manager in Gainesville, Virginia. “We appreciate the program and its mission to help keep families safe and the kids really like and enjoy him.”
NRA Weekend events occur twice a year nationwide so don’t miss out on your next opportunity on the fun and excitement at a store near you!
