Choosing a Bow for Beginners

I have been shooting guns as long as I can remember. It’ a passion I share with my family and a major part of my life. I’ve shot at the range, on the sporting clays course, and hunting out in the field. However, I had never shot a bow... until today.

The Great American Outdoor Show covers many sports and interests in the outdoor industry from hunting to fishing to the shooting sports. Archery is a big part of the show with vendors, seminars, and even a 3D archery range. What a better time and place to learn! 

If you are at the show, many exhibitors are set up in small ranges in the back of the Archery Hall for you to test their bows. Thanks to the guys at Mathews for giving me some tips on shooting a bow for the first time!

The most important piece of advice I learned for a beginner is to make sure your bow, no matter what type, fits you well. Your local pro shop can help pick the best draw length and weight for you depending on your size, strength, and skill level.
