Joining friends and family to remember the adoption of the Declaration of Independence
Fairfax, Virginia - Two hundred thirty-eight years ago our country declared independence from Great Britain. The process of forging our nation, a new nation, involved a courage most of us will never understand. Each year we recognize that courage as well as the sacrifices made by so many of our ancestors to ensure the freedoms each citizen holds so dear.
The National Rifle Association joins a number of great organizations in celebrating America's freedoms every day. Thousands of beautiful firearms decorate the halls and galleries of our National Firearms Museum, telling the nearly 700-year story of firearms and their integral role in creating the United States we know and love.
This weekend also marks the beginning of our 2014 National Rifle and Pistol Championships, where hundreds of the finest competitive shooters in the country gather to continue our country's strong shooting heritage - a right guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights.
So, from all of us at NRA HQ, enjoy today and join those you care about in celebrating the greatness of the United States of America.
If you're looking for something to do before the fireworks kick off, swing by the National Firearms Museum at 11250 Waples Mill Road in Fairfax, Virginia. Open 9:30 am to 5:00 pm, the NRA Museums follows the history of America, from Plymouth Rock to today, through the evolution and utilization of firearms.
