Plinking and plunking away raises smiles at Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex

Taking aim on the Pyramyd Air air gun range at the Great American Outdoor Show

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania - If you make you way to the upper corner of the Boats/RV Hall of the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center, chances are you're going to run into a pack of smiling sharpshooters. That's a sure sign that you're awful close to the Great American Outdoor Show's Air Gun Range.

Hosted by Pyramyd Air, the Air Rifle Range is one of the newer features as the Harrisburg show. One that's met with much appreciation.

"This is so cool," grinned Mike, a 12-year old from Carlisle. "I got to shoot three different (air) guns so far and I'm going to keep going back as long as they let me."

More than a dozen stations are located in the corner of the Boats/RV Hall. Each station is manned with experienced Range Safety Officers (RSO). Experts and novices alike are welcomed as the RSOs are there to ensure safety and provide advice on every shot. The entire event is overseen by NRA Headquarters Range Manager Michael Johns.

Johns starting running the Pyramyd Air Air Gun Ranges at the 2012 NRA Convention in St. Louis where safety is always a primary concern.

"The backdrop is made from high density ballistic nylon," Johns explained. "No way any of these shots are going any farther than the backdrop."

Attendance, as one might imagine, has been staggering. Not a surprised to the seasoned Johns.

"We usually end up elbow to elbow and shoulder to shoulder from the word go at these events," said Johns. "Boys and girls, moms and dads, everyone loves to shoot air guns. Probably something to do Michael Johns, on the far right, stands with Triggers star Wil Willis at the NRA Headquarters Range with childhood memories.

"I know it always puts a smile on my face."

The Pyramyd Air Air Rifle Range (see a list of Pyramyd Air Guns available to shoot here) is open during regular show hours through February 9. If you're looking for a chance to test your marksmanship skills or simply unwind, you'll be hard pressed to find a better remedy for soothing the savage beast.
