Lemon Grove Rod & Gun Club and others welcomes first time female shooters to the range
San Diego, California - If there's ever a place you wouldn't expect to find a NRA Women on Target Instructional Shooting Clinic its California (with New York coming a close second). But as the final Women on Target of 2013 comes to a close (held today at the Palmetto Gun Club in Ridgeville, South Carolina), a quick review of the record shows that California hosted more clinics in 2012 than any other state.
And what about 2013?
"Its going to be close close," said NRA's National Women on Target Program Coordinator Diane Danielson. "Odds are that California will take the title again this year, but there have been some big improvements in a number of states.
"This year, more than 200 clubs in 44 states are holding a Women on Target Instructional Shooting Clinic. Just imagine what it would be like if all 9,594 NRA Affiliated Clubs held at least one clinic."
And they're not wasting any time.
In fact, there are already 22 Women on Target events on the schedule for 2014. The Calguns Shooting Sports Association, the South Bay Rod & Gun Club as well as the Lemon Grove Rod & Gun Club in Alpine, California (about 30 minutes outside of San Diego) are running clinics from January clear through December. Not too bad for the Golden State.
"There is a huge contingency of firearm enthusiast throughout California and even more who eager to learn. That, and the great people we have running the programs out there, is why they always put up impressive numbers."
