Collegiate shooters race through fun shoot obstacle course before NRA championship

Columbus, Georgia - We've already covered the fun shoot from this past spring's NRA Intercollegiate Rifle Club Championships at Fort Benning, Georgia, but we thought you might like to see it in action. Above you can watch a couple two-person teams run through the four stage course.

For a quick refresh, the fun shoot's four stages were:

Army Marksmanship Unit soldiers ask NRA Intercollegiate Rifle Club Fun Shoot competitors trivia

  • Bag Toss - One member of the team would attempt to throw a kneeling roll into a trash bin from distances of 10, 15 and 20 feet. Five second penalties would be added to the final time for misses at 10 or 15 feet while five seconds would be subtracted for successful buckets at 15 or 20 feet.

  • Pong Cup - Each member of the team needed to bounce two ping pong balls into individual cups.

  • Trivia - A US Army Marksmanship Unit soldier would read a fact about one of three Shooting Hall of Fame members whose photos were laid out on a table. Identifying the correct Hall of Famer would subtract five seconds from the final time. An incorrect answer added five seconds.

  • Shooting - The team member who didn't do the Bag Toss would shoot an air rifle at one of three targets from 20 feet out. The first target was the size of a softball and a hit deducted no time while a miss added five seconds. Hitting the second, baseball-sized, target deducted five seconds and a miss added five. The final target, the size of a golf ball, would subtract ten seconds for a successful shot and add no points for a miss.
