Shooting Sports USA rummages through the range bag of one of the shooting world's greats

Bruce Piatt at the 2012 Midway & NRA Bianchi Cup

Fairfax, Virginia - Between NRA Action, Tactical 3-Gun, Sportsman Team Challenge and Masters, professional shooter Bruce Piatt is a busy guy. Barb Baird from Women's Outdoor News recently caught up with the five-time Bianchi Cup champion to glean some insight from this shooting genius, specifically: What's in his range bag?

Bruce Piatt will be the first to tell you that he is living the dream. As a sponsored professional shooter, he routinely takes the lead or immediately challenges the leader.

Sponsored by Blade-Tech, Burris, Caspian Arms Ltd., DPMS-Panther Arms, Remington Defense, Starline and Sierra, Bruce shoots pistol and 3-gun matches when he’s not raising his family with his lovely wife, Reyhan, or working his day job as a policeman in Montvale, N.J.

For a typical 3-gun match, he likes all of the mag pouches that come with Blade-Tech’s Tek-Lok quick attachment system. Here’s what he packs:

  • Blade-Tech belt, under belt and mag pouches (straight, speed rig and double)
  • Five 4-round shotgun shell loaders from
  • Progressive Machining
  • Two 6-round shotgun shell loaders from Choate A small Bagmaster bag to keep all the loaders organized
  • Work gloves for setting steel, knee and elbow pads
  • Low profile ear muffs and soft ear plugs
  • Prescription eye protection and lens wipes
  • Small parts and cleaning gear
  • “Lastly, a large plastic bag thatfolds up nicely, but is a lifesaver should severe weatherroll in. The entire range bag can fitinto the plastic bag,” said Bruce.

Bruce will be returning to compete in the Bianchi Cup in Missouri in May and the 3-Gun National Pro Series in Tulsa on June 22, then on to the Rocky Mountain 3-Gun at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, N.M., Aug. 1 through 3. See Brucepiatt.com.

You'll be sure to see Bruce at this year's MidwayUSA & NRA Bianchi Cup in Columbia, Missouri, aiming for his sixth NRA Action Pistol title. It won't be an easy task with the world's best pistol shooters all after the same title, but Bruce has proven he can do it before and has what it takes to do it again.
