West Virginia poised to take 2013 collegiate rifle title after strong start in Air Rifle Championship
Columbus, Ohio - The close overall standings between teams after yesterday's Smallbore Championship have become a little wider today at the Air Rifle Championship. The final portion of the 2013 NCAA Rifle Championships, today will decide this year's national champion.
With Relay #1's scores in and Relay #2 well underway, each shot gives us a clearer picture of who will walk away a champion.
Yesterday's leader and defending champions Texas Christian University has currently fallen to fourth place with a 1752, 13 points behind leader West Virginia University. University of Alaska-Fairbanks sits second with a 1758, seven points behind the top score. Behind them the University of Kentucky is eleven points out of the lead.
West Virginia, who spent almost the entire season ranked No. 1, is slowly pulling away from the rest of the competitors. Right now, in Relay #2, the schools' fourth, and best, shooters are determining the final standing.
In the individual championship, Maren Prediger from West Virginia currently sits in the lead heading into the finals with a 591-41x. Behind her are Jacksonville State's Cole Tucker and Air Force's Tyler Rico with 591-39x and 590-37x respectively.
