Rosters and individual shooters picked for NCAA Rifle Championships at Ohio State
Fairfax, Virginia - After announcing the eight teams who will compete for this year's NCAA Rifle Championships earlier this week, the NCAA has released the selected rosters and the individual shooters chosen to participate.
Held March 8-9 at the Converse Hall and French Field House on Ohio State's campus, this year's championships can be expected to come down to the wire. Defending champs Texas Christian looks not only for its first back-to-back win, but a third championship in four years. Kentucky, 2011 winner, has its eye on reclaiming the throne. Dynasties Alaska-Fairbanks and West Virginia are both in the running and would each like to add another championship to their double digit wins.
Or will it be one of the other four teams? As in the finals of every other sport: just being there means you have a chance to win.
The 40 shooters from these team rosters will also compete in the individual championships alongside eight individual shooters selected from their qualifier scores. Last year's Smallbore Champion, Sarah Scherer, and Air Rifle Champion, Petra Zublasing are both in attendance and might very well win again. Scherer is coming off of a spectacular season that began with an appearance in the London 2012 Summer Olympics.
