Five Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun stages for the Tenafly Rifle and Pistol Club
The NRA Club Champion Challenge was introduced in 2012. Calling on clubs, businesses and groups across the country, the Champion Challenge invites those of all skill levels to take their turn for a friendly afternoon of pistol, rifle and shotgun matches ... like the one held up north at the Tenafly Rifle and Pistol Club.
Thanks to the staff up at Tenafly, here's a report on their first match:
Tenafly, New Jersey - Tenafly Rifle and Pistol Club (TRPC) of New Jersey held their first NRA Club Champion Challenge. The match was organized by NRA Certified Instructor & TRPC board member John Hlinka.
The match included 5 stages. Rimfire rifle, big bore pistol and .22 pistol stages were fired at 25 yards utilizing traditional targets. Two shorter 15-yard distance stages used tactical pistol and shotgun with knock-down steel targets. Experienced guns and novices shot side by side to earn the right to make TRPC history as the first ever TRPC NRA Club Champions.
One of the highlights of the match was 12-year-old Kyle Macalinao best his father, Marcos, in tactical pistol, knocking down the steel targets in blazing time.
“The NRA Club Champion program is really gaining steam, because it is an easy way to for a club to hold a NRA sanctioned match. The program basically provides clubs with a tournament in a box. Awards are provided by NRA, including a Montana Silversmiths belt buckle for the NRA Club Champion” said John Parker of NRA Competitive Shooting. He added “We are especially excited that clubs are utilizing the tactical pistol, rifle, and shotgun stages that are offered in the courses of fire.”
Gary Brooks had the honor of becoming the first Club Champion. 2nd and 3rd place went go to Lawrence Luhrman and Andrew Kuo, respectively. Carl Johnston was “High Junior”, while Lawrence Luhrman took it for our “High Senior” division. Honorable mention goes to Hamid Zahedi, who, with good sportsman humor, took the last place trophies in both rimfire rifle and pistol.
