No. 2 TCU Horned Frogs hold steady behind No. 1 West Virginia
Fairfax, Virginia - After its first week back from the winter break, everything remains in place in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association Poll. Most teams have one or two matches left before their conference championships and/or the NCAA qualifiers.
The top seated West Virginia Mountaineers hosted the then-No. 8 Nebraska Cornhuskers at their range January 19, winning the match 4689-4661. The next day, the No. 3 Kentucky Wildcats beat the then-No. 10 Memphis Tigers 4646-4598. Although both the Cornhuskers and Tigers lost, the two teams each moved up a spot in the CRCA Poll. Nebraska now sits at No. 7, trading places with Air Force despite losing to them the weekend prior and Memphis moved to No. 9 after Murray State's defeat at the hands of Jacksonville State.
As West Virginia and Nebraska faced off, the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs went to the firing line against the University of Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks in the first of two matches that weekend. After squeaking out a 4670-4654 win to start their spring semester matches, Texas Christian came back two days later on January 21 to win its 21st consecutive regular season match 4692-4657. The Horned Frogs' impressive record goes back to the 2011-2012 season.
We're a little more than a month away from the NCAA Rifle Championships at Ohio State University on March 8-9. Team rankings have been pretty consistent at the top of the poll this season, but we'll know just how accurate they were once the 2013 champion has been crowned.
