Tunica, Mississippi - The 2012 Professional Outdoor Media Association conference opened last night at the Tunica River Park & Museum. Resting right there on the banks of the Mississippi River, the River Park takes you through the history of the river with a walk through their two story museum. There's also a present day provided by floating down stream upon the Tunica Queen.
Unfortunately, the river was so low that the queen stood still, but that didn't mean we were about the let the museum pass us by. Filled with displays capturing efforts to preserve the river, the great flood of 1927, remnants of a Civil War era "City" Class Ironclad and a handful of firearms, the museum is an elegant step through the life and times of the south.
But the real crowd pleaser was the aquariums. Water turtles, catfish bigger than my 10 year old niece, a snapping turtle the size of a Fiat and a gator. Now we don't have shots of everything, but there should be more than enough for a taste of the exhibits.
