Fairfax, Virginia - Joe Kain was recently welcomed to the NRA as an intern for the Youth Programs Department. He is not that much different than most college sophomores in the fact that he takes classes, studies hard and enjoys leisure time with friends. Although there is one thing that does set him apart from his peers — Kain is part of the Hillsdale College Shotgun Team.
Hillsdale College is located in Hillsdale Michigan and is amongst an elite number of educational facilities that compete in shooting sports at the collegiate level. Many members of the NRA have assisted Hillsdale College develop their program by coordinating meetings with range architects and others who helped them start their shooting programs. The college currently has four trap fields, one skeet field, and a sporting clays course.
Hillsdale’s shooting team is composed of highly sought after competitive shooters from around the country. The team is required to attend at least three practices a week in order to prepare for upcoming events. As a freshman Kain started in all of the fall shooting events. Kain also competed in the Delta International Open in Tillar, Arkansas and the ACUI National Champions in San Antonio, Texas. At the ACUI National Championships Hillsdale College placed 1st in their division (picture below).
Kain hopes to build a stronger relationship between the NRA and Hillsdale College. He says that there are many college students nationwide with conservative views similar to those of Hillsdale and the NRA, but are not involved with either. He believes that developing stronger relationship between Hillsdale and the NRA will help attract more students to both organizations. During his time at the NRA he also plans to become an NRA Certified Shotgun Coach. As a Coach; he will use his skills to help teach new team members and become a team leader.
The NRA is excited to have this Top Shot on board.
