The NRA/Springfield Armory M1A Match at Camp Perry is getting a boost at the prize table this year. Already the most prize-rich High Power event the NRA holds, Springfield Armory is upping the ante to over $27,000 in cash and merchandise this year.

The match, which started five years ago, was created to encourage more use of the classic M1A. Many competitive shooters have a familiarity with the rifle as it was widely used in matches years ago. With the rise in popularity of black guns at high power rifle matches, Springfield Armory was determined to find a way for this exquisite and well respected firearm to get more use.

Sound like fun? Wait til you hear about the prizes.

The Match Winner will receive a prize of $2,000. First, second and third place Civilians get $1,500, $1,000 and a Springfield M1A Rifle respectively. High Military, Woman and Senior receive $500 and a Springfield pistol each. The High Junior also receives $500 and an additional $500 is donated to their Junior Club. Also, the High Grand Senior will get a Springfield 1911 Milspec Pistol.

For everyone else who hasn't already won a prize, $200 will be given out to 25 competitors using Lewis Class scoring.

M1A match medallions are awarded to the top 50 competitors.

In addition to all these prizes, there will be prize drawings held during the match to give away four Springfield pistols and two Springfield rifles. No expert marksmanship needed for these. Names are drawn out of a hat, you only need to compete to have a chance to win.

We, the NRA will have a gun raffle of our own at the match, giving away one engraved Springfield rifle. Proceeds from this raffle will go to help offset volunteer expenses.

Match rules allow for any configuration of the M1A rifle. Competitors shoot a course of fire of five sighter shots and 50 shots for record at 300 yards using the MR-65F target. Those 50 shots for record are broken down into strings of 20 slow fire prone, 10 rapid fire prone, 10 rapid fire kneeling or sitting and 10 show fire standing.

That's it. If that didn't entice you I don't know what to say. Check out this handy FAQ on the match and register here. The NRA/Springfield M1A match is a part of the NRA High Power package and you don't need to worry about filling out the ID field if you aren't a member (although that can be taken care of that right now, you know).

This match is going to be a lot of fun and will kick off this year's NRA High Power Rifle Championships. We'll see you there.
