The Youth Education Summit looks forward to big things from this year's crop of attendees. Already a number of the students have been busy getting featured in local papers for their unique opportunity to attend the summit.

Josh Simon, from Sarasota, Florida, was featured in his high school newspaper, the Out-of-Door Academy's The Bolt. Stumbling across the program in an NRA magazine, Josh's interest in both shooting and politics led him to apply for the summit. The video he made as his "personal statement" portion of the Y.E.S. application can be seen above.

From nearby Frederick, Maryland, Wyatt Farmer was interviewed by the Frederick News-Post. Wyatt is very active in his community, sitting as vice president of the Lewistown 4-H Club, junior vice president of the Catoctin FFA Chapter and playing soccer for Catoctin High School to name a few.

Dirk Seymour of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, was in The Coeur d'Alene Press. An Eagle Scout and rifle instructor in the Rifle Marksmanship and Revolutionary War History/Appleseed Project, among many other things, Dirk has been an avid shooter since receiving a BB gun on his seventh birthday.

Captain of his varsity baseball team and first-place winner of the 2011 Texas Renaissance Festival Writing Contest, an article on Wyatt Saltarelli attending the summit popped up in The Courier of Montgomery County. Wyatt also holds a black belt in karate and works part-time doing ranch and farm work for neighbors.

A story on sophomore Rudy Simpson, a tenth grader at Tawas Area High School in Whittemore, Michigan, was run in the Iosco County News Herald. Rudy is a member of the National Honor Society and has been active with Iosco County Shooting Sports since 2006, participating in every shooting sports discipline offered through his 4-H program. He has competed on the local, state and national levels in archery, trap, BB gun, air rifle, .22 rifle and muzzleloader.

No doubt even more of the students selected for this year's Youth Education Summit will appear in their local papers before the summit begins at the end of the month. Congratulations to all of the 2012 class. You're going to have a great time.
