Up to $20,000 in scholarships up for grabs
Although all the applications are already in for this year’s potential Youth Education Summit (YES) candidates, there’s still some hustling going on by a number of last year’s attendees. That’s because the deadline for the 2011 class’ Grand Scholarship Project is coming faster than they think ... April to be exact.
To qualify for the scholarship, a YES alum must actively spread the message of the NRA to his or her community. That means holding workshops, writing articles, appearing on television and anything else they can think of. And before the deadline, which is only weeks away, they must put together a book of their activities and send it to the NRA.
One of last year’s prize submissions came from Philip Wegmann of Woodburn, Indiana. His book, pictured above, was filled with practically a hundred examples of his work. Everything from spreading Eddie Eagle’s life saving message to local Elementary Schools, helping run Refuse to be a Victim seminars and more.
At stake is $20,000 in scholarships. Split up between the prized entries, it’s a lot of money for a lot of work. But since that money is going to the higher education of quality people like Philip, it’s money well spent.
