The 2012 NCAA Rifle Championships are approaching quickly, and with it the close of Rifle's regular season. On January 21, the then-ranked #1 Kentucky Wildcats and #2 Texas Christian University Horned Frogs, the team national champions from 2011 and 2010 respectively, went head-to-head in a match that saw its fair share of exemplary shooting.

Posting a 2,341 in smallbore, and creating a 14-point lead, the Frogs had excellent performences by their shooters, including a personal record of 590 from Sarah Beard.

Although Kentucky mounted a rally in air rifle and won 2,366-2,362, it was not enough to overcome TCU's lead. The Frogs 4,703-4,693 victory propelled them past the defending national champions into the #1 ranking and extended their regular season winning streak to 26 matches.

Kentucky, who fell to #2, ended their streak of 13 straight match wins.

With only a couple matches left in each team's season before the National Championships on March 9-10 at The Ohio State University, here's how the Top-10 is looking in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association poll:

NCAA Rifle
TCU 4,700.00
