The Wall Street Journal has a good article by Dawn Fallik on the shooting team at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.

Whether you're a large state university or a small private college, you can find room for a shooting team. If you're interested in learning more about how to get a collegiate shooting program off the ground, check out NRA's new Developing a Scholastic Shooting Program book.

Young Scientists Take Aim

Shaina Kulp chose to attend the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia because of its strong science classes and highly rated pharmacy school. To her surprise, she also learned to shoot a rifle.

Ms. Kulp is in her fourth year of the school's six-year pharmacy program. She's also a member of the school's women's rifle team that competes against other NCAA teams. The 22-year-old from Lancaster, Pa., says many of the same qualities she likes about lab work also drew her to shooting an air rifle—the structure and the need to pay close attention to details. Pharmacy work is very repetitive, says Ms. Kulp. "Rifle is the same thing. You do one thing after another, the exact same way every time," she says. "That's how my mind works."

The school, known as USciences, founded nearly two centuries ago as the first pharmacy school in the U.S., turns out about 200 new pharmacists a year. Its successful rifle-shooting program, which dates from 1935, pits some two-dozen science students against the likes of West Point and the U.S. Naval Academy.
