The Gunny R. Lee Ermey takes a look at a Glock at the 2011 NPSC

Albuquerque, New Mexico - There are some voices that you just know anywhere, and when I heard one particular voice this morning, I knew that the 2011 National Police Shooting Championships just got much more interesting. I also knew that there was a strong possibility that push-ups were in my future.

The voice I heard belonged to none other than R. Lee Ermey, known to most as “The Gunny”. For the past five years, The Gunny has come out to NPSC and today I ran into him as he examined the guns on the prize table, including 30 pristine Glock pistols that The Gunny helped present to NRA's Law Enforcement Division at the 2011 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits.

“I’ve never had a malfunction with a Glock,” said The Gunny as he admired a Glock 17. “ And that’s why I back their guns.”

Besides taking a look at some of the amazing firearms that will be awarded to our 2011 winners, The Gunny shared that he’s always happy to come to NPSC and let people know that he’s still alive and kicking.

“I get to come out here every year, and I don’t have a job or any responsibilities at NPSC, so it’s a great excuse to come hang out with the guys,” said The Gunny. “This is my fifth year at NPSC, so I’m at the point where if I don’t show up, people will think I’m dead, so I have to dispel that rumor. And actually, it’s almost medicinal for me to be here.”

We’ll be bringing you more from The Gunny while he’s here at NPSC, including his time out on the range sizing up the competition to his speech at tonight’s Awards Ceremony. So don’t go away, or The Gunny will have some choice words for you, slacker!
