San Antonio, Texas - Day three of the 2011 ACUI Clay Target Championships is American Skeet. As usual the morning has been very cloudy and there were small hints of rain, but the overcast is beginning to clear up.
The shooters are back at the lower fields of the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas competing in the American Skeet Championship. Last year's champions, Lindenwood University, have yet to shoot and defend their title from a number of schools who have already shot impressive rounds. The pressure is on to score hits when they finally get on the field.
In the men's standings, Mack Davis of Southeastern Illinois College had a monster day, shooting a 100 to take the top spot. How long he stays there is up in the air however, as the chance for a couple more 100s is a possibility. Shooting this accurate is sure to make for an interesting finals in the evening. Once again there is a logjam of ties at 96 on the mens side. If higher scores are not shot later today, there will be a large shoot-off like yesterday to determine who moves on.
Over on the women's side, SIC continues to have a strong day with Kim Peters Lauderdale posting a 97 to tie with Amanda Myers of Northeastern Junior College.
Skeet fields are reporting delays of around 30 minutes, meaning today will be quite long and finals will again be shot late in the evening.
Keep checking back for more score updates. Current standings after the break.
