While trolling through the walkways of the Sands Expo Center during SHOT Show 2011, I came upon a gentleman signing prints for a sizable crowd. Always anxious for a good celebrity story, I stuck around until the numbers dissipated. That's when I saw the print and recognized the work — it was that of legendary tactical artist Dick Kramer.
Regular readers of NRAblog might recall that the NRA Program Materials Center started selling an original Kramer print of Camp Perry's Pistol Championships back in November. With that knowledge in hand, I asked Mr. Kramer for a couple minutes to talk about the print.
"I'll be at NRA Headquarters in a few weeks," said Kramer. "How about we meet then?"
Sure enough, Mr. Kramer arrived at Headquarters a few weeks later. We headed up to the sixth floor – home to the Competitive Shooting Division – to find Dick and his wife Ginny settled into Mike Krei's office along side NRA Pistol Manager Tom Hughes.
"Hey Lars, there's the man who found me at SHOT," Kramer exclaimed. "This kid knew all about the Perry print and everything."
After thanking him for the kid comment, we sat to talk about the Camp Perry print.
"I've done a number of pieces for the NRA," Kramer explained. "Mike (Krei) called me earlier last year to see if I'd be interested in working on a pistol print for Perry. Well, the NRA has always been good to me, and Mike has always been great to work with, and I welcomed the challenge. I only hope that people appreciate what I came up with."
Judging from the sales, they definitely do. And you can too by purchasing the print from NRA's Program Materials Center online or via phone at 1-800-336-7402.
