Boy Scout Troop 79's Chenoweth Trails Trapshoot

Justin McDaniel received a package with pictures and a letter from Boy Scout Troop 79 of Greenville;

Greenville, Ohio - The first Annual Troop 79 Trapshoot was held at the Light Foundation’s “Chenoweth Trails” on November 20, 2010. Boy Scout troops from all over Darke County were invited to participate for an afternoon of safety training, leadership, and fun. Shooters, some of who have never shot before, ranged in age from 12-18 years old. 58 youth took part in the trapshoot, including a few young ladies. After the Scouts had shot for hours, the ranges were turned over to the adult volunteers for some fun.

This event was done at no cost to the shooter thanks to Kathy, Sonia, Mike and ODNR’s Step Outside Grant. This grant covered the cost of ammo and safety equipment. The shirts were done by Aestetic Finishers and several other donors. Ranges and throwers were donated by Schrader Farms and from Rob Klamar and John Kaiser from Pheasants Forever.

Thanks to John Harman and Troop 79 for providing a delicious supper to all the adult volunteers. We also had Pastor Larry Lavey and Pastor Dennis Wheeler, both active shooters, help with the beautiful weather and the evening supper prayer.

Dave Richart did a wonderful job of capturing the event on pictures and Janet Smeith showed the boys how to shoot a right-handed gun, dominant right eye, left handed. We will be looking for a gun to better fit the way she shoots!

A huge thank you to all the volunteers, donors, and the Matt Light Foundation. This event could not happen without all of you. The Second Annual Troop 79 Trapshoot will be bigger and better next year!
