The Hartford, Connecticut, Cabela’s will host a benefit barbecue for the local Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) program on August 22, 2010. The benefit will be in conjunction with their 2nd biggest sale of the year, The Fall Great Outdoor Day Sale. Cabela’s Retail Events Coordinator Diana Bazzano is in charge of the event. “We chose YHEC to do a benefit because we wanted to do something related to what Cabela’s does, something for fishing or hunting,” said Ms. Bazzano.

Pepsi will be donating drinks and chips to the cause. Carl’s BBQ and Jerk, a local Jamaican barbecue place, will be catering the event. Customers can buy a sandwich, chips, and a soda for only $4.00. For each sandwich sale, $1.00 will be donated to YHEC.

The Youth Hunter Education Challenge is acknowledged as the most widespread youth hunting program in North America. YHEC is the NRA’s “graduate studies” program in outdoor skills and safety training at the state or provincial level.
