Ben Avery Shooting Facility

NRAblog first met Ben Avery Shooting Facility's Rangemaster, Matthew Schwartzkopf, at a shoot sponsored by NRA's Disabled Shooting Services at the facility last year. The Facility is owned and operated by the Arizona Game and Fish Department, which makes it the largest public operated range in the nation.

Schwartzkopf checked in to share news of a recently formed air rifle league. "A lot has been going on here at Ben Avery," he said. "Recently we completed a renovation of our Air Gun Building, and we're in the process of building four new ranges, 2 rifle and 2 Pistol. We're also currently renovating our high power range."

"This league takes new shooters and introduces them to shooting sports and safe, friendly competition," Schwartzkopf explained. "We ran a league last fall, and five of the 11 kids went on to the Arizona State Rifle and Pistol Association Junior Marksmanship program.

The new league will meet every Monday in March and April. Four relays are available to participants: 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. Each participant receives one hour to fire 30 shots, and air guns are provided.
