Marksman keeps eye on the prize
William "Trey" Eades III knows how to keep his eye on the prize. In fact, this 17-year-old sharpshooter is ranked No. 1 in the nation when it comes to marksmanship.
"I call him Mr. Discipline," said retired Col. Rick Roberts, the senior army instructor at C.E. Byrd High School where Trey is a senior. "He's won two national tournaments and is ranked No. 1 going into the next nationals."
There's no question Trey is on a roll, having won two national championships in the same year. Trey won the 2009 National JROTC Individual Sporter Championship in March at Fort Benning, Ga., and in July he went to Port Clinton, Ohio, where he won the individual gold medal in the 2009 Junior Olympic Three-Position Sporter Air Rifle Championship. In February, he goes back to Port Clinton for the Army championships. There, he will have the opportunity to qualify for the national championship, to be held in March at Fort Benning.
