Red Ryder BB Gun

For those of you who remember the classic lines, "Meatloaf, smeatloaf, double-beatloaf, I hate meatloaf," and "I triple-dog-dare ya," tonight's Curator's Corner just might pull at the heart strings. Tonight, National Firearms Museum's Senior Curator Phil Schreier will be on the scene with a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun.

Initially hitting the market in 1938, the Red Ryder has been a first shot favorite for decades. With a classic Winchester styled lever-action to pump its 650 BB capacity, the Red Ryder usually lost accuracy after ten yards. Nonetheless, almost every little boy growing up over the last eighty years hoped his Christmas night would be like Ralphie's from A Christmas Story:

"Next to me in the blackness lay my oiled blue steel beauty. The greatest Christmas gift I had ever received, or would ever receive. Gradually, I drifted off to sleep, pinging ducks on the wing and getting off spectacular hip shots."

That's all for now, but Phil will have more on the Red Ryder tonight at 10:20 p.m. during this week's edition of Curator's Corner on NRANews.com or on Sirius Patriot channel 144.
