NRA Board Member and NFL legend Dave Butz recently attended the 2nd Annual Sporting Clays Invitational in Okeechobee, Florida. Approximately 250 shooters gathered at Quail Creek Plantation on October 22 to raise money for a worthy cause.

A joint effort from the Boy Scouts of America South Florida Council (SFC) and Taurus,, the event raised more than $225,000. Proceeds help support the SFC’s outreach program, Operation ScoutReach, which helps bring Scouting to youth in economically challenged communities.

Butz, who attended last year’s inaugural event, was on hand as a representative for the NRA. For the second year in a row, private shooting lessons with Butz have been auctioned off to raise money. This year, three lucky people won two hours of 5-stand instruction with Butz, who is an accomplished shotgunner. Many other fantastic prizes were auctioned off following the shoot, including shotguns, rifles, pistols, safaris, fishing trips, and many more. According to Butz, Taurus President Bob Morrison was instrumental in the success of the event, thanks to his hard work and generous support as a sponsor.

“The prizes that Bob was able to get for this event were unbelievable,” said Butz. “Bob is also a strong supporter of the NRA and gives a free membership with each gun sold.”
