Stage 4 of the JP Rocky Mountain 3-Gun Match is what 3-gun competition is all about. Competitors begin with their shotgun, shooting steel slug targets and blasting stationary clays as they move through a gully. Grounding their shotgun, they grab their slung rifle to engage a series of long range steel targets from two positions. Shooters then move back down into the gully, winding through a series of steel and paper targets with their pistol.
This stage combines the use of all three firearms, as well as shooting from moving and stationary positions. The use of multiple types of targets along with the long range and dynamic shooting makes Stage 4 the ultimate example of a 3-gun course of fire.
Competitors are finishing up their final stage of the match, with the awards ceremony being held later this afternoon. Check back with NRAblog tomorrow morning to see who won the 2009 JP Rocky Mountain 3-Gun Competition.
