17-year-old Colin Wait from Durango, Colorado has spent a good portion of his summer with the National Rifle Association. Wait is currently participating in the Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) at the NRA Whittington Center, and earlier this month he took part in the Youth Education Summit (YES).
“It was awesome, a really good experience,” Wait told NRAblog. He spoke about the fun of meeting people with similar interests in guns and politics. “I didn’t meet a person I didn’t like,” said Wait with a smile. “It’s been the same thing [at YHEC], being able to meet people who you have things in common with. I’ve learned a lot at both.”
While Wait enjoyed learning about government, politics, and the NRA at YES, he has also enjoyed the lessons learned at YHEC. “You learn so much about hunting, everything from ethics to guns,” offered Wait.
When asked what he liked the most about YHEC, Wait couldn’t choose just one thing. “I’ve enjoyed the whole competition and being able to compete in all of the disciplines,” said Wait.
Wait has already finished competing in the events at YHEC,and now awaits final results, which will be announced tomorrow at the Awards Banquet. Come back to NRAblog for coverage of the final day of YHEC and tomorrow’s results and awards.
