If you go into the National Firearms Museum's side door and walk straight back, you can't help but end up in the Roosevelt Room. Named after the 26th President of the United States Theodore Roosevelt, it is a replica of the north room at his Sagamore Hill homestead. Each case and window holds a unique treat -- even this special teddy bear.
As the story goes, while hunting with the Governor of Mississippi, President Roosevelt refused the opportunity to shoot a motherless bear cub. Always surrounding the President, the press had everything from front page stories to editorial cartoons covering the event. Soon after, toy manufacturers started producing Teddy's Bear. And that's why we call them teddy bears to this day.
