Around the NRA: The Great American White Tail Collection by Admin 10. January 2009 09:42

When rounding corners at NRA Headquarters, you never quite know what might be looking back at you! This is particularly true in the center hallway of the sixth floor of our south tower where the following warning can be found:

CAREFUL LEFTHAND TURN ONLY

The reason for such a caution? Because around the corner rests a portion of the NRA Great American Whitetail Collection – a beautiful display of replicated antlers. The replications featured here are some of the most famous, highest-scoring whitetail mounts in America. According to Dick Idol, noted whitetail expert, “The NRA Great American Whitetail Collection represents a replicated collage of the greatest whitetails in the world and epitomizes the dreams of every whitetail hunter in North America.”

Deer HeadsTo the delight of outdoorsmen everywhere, this collection goes on tour year round with its superior assemblage of whitetails. "We have monster bucks in our Great American Whitetail Collection," said Bob Davis, Manager of the NRA Hunter Services Department. "These are the kinds of bucks that really gets your heart racing and keep you up at night." Included in the touring collection are the Milo Hanson Buck (the current B&C Typical World Record scoring an impressive 213 5/8) and a pair of sheds found in Minnesota (a non-typical scoring 334 points). Also in the building's collection, the JH Waters Buck (pictured below) is a real favorite.

JH Waters BuckThe JH Waters Buck was harvested in Shawnee County, Kansas, back in 1987. And it's not just the 20" inside spread that makes him special, but also the collection of 29 points that (for a lack of better word) point to the North, South, East and West. And his number one Kansas B&C rating isn't too shabby either. So keep an eye out for more 'Around the NRA' segments as we highlight these wonderful whitetails and more.
