Film Crew from The Blaze arrives in Fairfax for firearms shoot

NRA Museum Director Jim Supica waits for The Blaze camera crew to call for the shot

Fairfax, Virginia - The closer we draw to the NRA Convention in Houston (21 days until Texas!), the more activity there is here at headquarters. More phone calls, more visitors and more film crews looking for that last piece of firearms related news before the Annual Meetings begins. Like the one here today from The Blaze.

National Firearms Museum exhibits at Wanenmacher's Tulsa Gun Show

NRA Museum Director Jim Supica and Senior Curator Philip Schreier Tulsa, Oklahoma - April 6th & 7th marks the return of Wanenmacher's Tulsa Gun Show. 11 acres of rifles, pistols, shotguns and accessories for experienced and novice gun owners and collectors alike. A tiny portion of all those acres will be taken up by the NRA's National Firearms Museum. That and a little bit more.

"We're filming more episode of NRA's Guns and Gold," said National Firearms Museum Director Jim Supica. "Every year we see an incredible collection of guns here in Tulsa. That's why we keep coming back."

Pulling patrons from the show floor, producers for NRA's Guns and Gold go in search of the historic, the eclectic, and the unusual. Guns that will make the home viewers bridge to the edge of their couch and say wow. Guns like the one the museum brought for display.

Supica and Schreier bring John Wayne's Colt Single Action Army to NRANews

John Wayne's Colt Single Action Army from The Shootist

Alexandria, Virginia - Alone it's remarkable. A Colt Single Action Army revolver. The sidearm every American recognizes from the classic westerns of days gone by.

"This gun is a great old original first generation Colt Single Action Army. The serial number places it's production at somewhere around 1901. There's no finish, gray patina, original barrel length with imitation ivory styled grips."

Owner of world's largest gun show shares his flintlock pistol made for the Middle East

Joe Wannemacher's London made flintlock pistol for the middle east

Fairfax, Virginia - As Curator's Corner draws ever closer on this Monday's episode of NRANews on the Sportsman Channel, we take a quick peak at last week's episode. Given that it's the final segment from last year's Tulsa Gun Show, they brought of the big dog himself ... Joe Wannemacher. Joe didn't disappoint. As a final farewell, he brought out his London made flintlock.

"It's silver inlay, the barrel is chiseled with a lot of find handwork," Wannamacher explained. "The stock is highly inlayed with silver wire. It's just a beautiful, well made gun."

Shotguns and pistols from Eisenhower, Cleveland and Roosevelt

President Dwight D. Eisenhower's Winchester Model 21 Shotgun

Fairfax, Virginia - Today wasn't always known as Presidents Day.

In fact, up until the 1980s, only two of the four presidential birthdays that fell within the month of February were celebrated with any great regularity (more on that below). As fate would have it, we don't have any of firearms related to those gentlemen on display at the National Firearms Museum ... but we do have a few others.

Supica and Schreier have Civil War rifle and World War II exotics on Guns and Gold

Winchester Model 1892 rifle used by John Wayne as The Ringo Kid in the 1939 movie Stagecoach

Just because tomorrow is a federal holiday doesn't mean that the boys from NRA's Guns and Gold are taking a break. No, they're back again on the Outdoor Channel with great examples of firearms used in the Civil War, World War II and on the silver screen out west in Hollywood.

Shot on location at Wannemacher's Tulsa Gun Show, the event continues to provide a treasure trove of firearms history.

NRA Curators find Guns of Art from the Tulsa Arms Show in Oklahoma

Holland & Holland Double Rifle - .700 Nitro Express

For a number of collectors, guns are nothing more then a canvas of steel. Works of art to be praised, admired and kept in a place of honor. Those are the type of firearms Phil and Jim are bringing out tomorrow night for NRA's Guns & Gold.

"What usually happens when you start doing custom work on a gun is that the value goes down because collectors want that original configuration," said National Firearms Museum Director Jim Supica. "But it's different when you have a classic gunsmith do the work."
