Kentucky Derby excitement followed by Hunting Fashion Show

Park City, Kentucky - Ladies of NRA's Women's Outdoor Adventure celebrated the running of the Kentucky Derby in high style last night. Although unable to make the trip to Churchill Downs, they reveled in the racing spirit while donning their Derby hats on race day. Upon entering the room, each woman chose a rose bearing the name of a horse running in the Derby. Picking the right name was of great importance.

Fairfax, Virginia -The NRA National Action Pistol Championship, also known as the MidwayUSA & NRA Bianchi Cup, has a seen a tremendous growth in sponsorship in 2012. The return of longstanding supporters along with the addition of new sponsors helps the championship to maintain its standing as the richest and most prestigious shooting tournament in the world.

As the title sponsor, MidwayUSA’s generous support of the Bianchi Cup for 2012 exceeds $65,000. The company will once again provide $15,000 in cash prizes for the First-Time Shooters Awards. First-time Men, Women and Junior competitors in the Production Class achieving the highest aggregate score of all (4) four Championship Events will take home $2,500 for 1st place, $1,500 for 2nd place and $750 for 3rd place.

Fairfax, Virginia – The National Rifle Association is now accepting applications for the Brownell’s/NRA Outstanding Achievement Youth Award. Chosen for their accomplishments in the community, the classroom and the shooting sports, three exceptional young people from across the United States will receive a total of $10,000 courtesy of Brownell’s.

“The Outstanding Achievement Youth Award recognizes young people who exemplify excellence in not only the shooting sports, but other areas of their lives,” said Larry Quandahl, Manager of NRA’s Youth Programs Department. “Dedication to academics and community are important facets to becoming a well-rounded shooter.”

Scheduled for May 23-26, the 2012 NRA Bianchi Cup is one of the richest and most prestigious shooting championships in the world. Over $300,000 in prizes and cash is up for grabs, including the $15,000 in cash courtesy of title sponsor MidwayUSA that will go to the top-ranking first-time shooters.

Women, Junior & Men shooters who have never competed at the MidwayUSA & NRA Bianchi Cup will take home $2,500 for first place, $1,500 for second place and $700 for third place. This brings MidwayUSA's total sponsorship to more than $65,000, helping to fuel growth and additional sponsorship.

The NRA Youth Hunter Education Challenge Mid-America Expansion Project, sponsored by MidwayUSA, was a huge success in 2011, with many new YHEC events cropping up across the Midwest. Here's another report from NRA YHEC Field Coordinator Susan Hill from a first-time event in Lead Hill, Arkansas:

Our October 28th YHEC event was held in Lead Hill, Arkansas on the 84-acre private farm of Johnny and Michelle Burleson, who also led the event. 40 participants and 46 volunteers/parents from the HEAT home school group were in attendance. A Wildlife Officer with the Arkansas Game & Fish Department also came to the event to talk with the children about wildlife, hunting, and safety issues.

The participants completed four events including Archery, Rifle, Hunter Safety Trail, and Wildlife Identification. The Burlesons plan to have many more YHEC events and are working towards another in March of this year.
