Pennsylvania Governor joins community leaders and NRA Officials for Great American relaunch

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania - Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett joined leaders from the Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau and the National Rifle Association to officially open the 2014 Great American Outdoor Show to Harrisburg. While addressing those in attendance at Sheraton, Harrisburg, Governor Corbett explained why the outdoor lifestyle is important to Pennsylvania.

"(I)f you get out around the country side and look at the woods in mountains to the north of us and all the streams we have and places to go fishing, places to get into a kayak … and following the different rivers and streams that flow all over the state of Pennsylvania.

Fifty-eight bears topping 500 pounds part of fifth-largest harvest in Pennsylvania history

Bear hunting in Pennsylvania Pennsylvania hunters harvested a total of 3,510 bears in 2013, the fifth-highest tally in state history, the Pennsylvania Game Commission reported today.

The final total continues a trend of recent bear seasons taking their place in the record books. With harvest totals for 2013 now official, three of the five highest harvests have occurred in the past three years.

The all-time high was recorded in 2011, when 4,350 bears were harvested. In 2012, Pennsylvania hunters harvested 3,632 bears – the third-largest harvest in state history.
