Digging through our archives this weekend we find a photograph from a trip last year to the Hollywood Celebrity Sporting Clays Invitational in Newhall, California. Bookending the above shot is Top Shot Season 2's Joe Serafini and George Reinas.

Set up by veteran actor and NRA Life Member Patrick Kilpatrick, the Celebrity Sporting Clays raises money for a number of charities including charities including Guide On, Wounded Warriors, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Children of Hero's Wish Program and Gallant Few.

For this weekend's image rewind, we go back two years to the 2010 Patriot’s Path Memorial Day Shoot. Above is Samantha Olsen of NRA Youth Programs. Sam, as we call her, is a skilled shotgun shooter who competed that weekend for Team NRA.

Joined by Bill Poole (Director of Education and Training), Kristin Stoner (Office of Advancement Events Manager), Samantha Olsen and Andy Lander (Instructor Program Coordinator), Team NRA bested Team Remington for bragging rights in the inaugural event.

San Antonio, Texas – The Bethel University Wildcats currently possess a two point Division 1 team championship lead over Texas A&M University with a score of 483. Totals for Lindenwood, the team champion in both international events for the ACUI Clay Target Championships in San Antonio, have yet to be tallied. We'll have to wait until this evening to find out if they can take another championship, force a tie or end up coming behind the current leaders.

Texas A&M's Logan Gaskins, who missed one bird in his first round, ended up with a 99 and sits in first for the Mens category while there's an nine-way tie for second.

San Antonio, Texas - Brian Burrows from the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs was perfect. Firing a flawless four rounds at the ACUI Clay Target Championships in San Antonio, the USA Shooting National Team member scored a stellar 100 points to take the top spot heading into the men's finals.

Nipping at his heels was Southeastern Illinois' Matt Perkins followed by four other shooters who managed to fire an impressive collection of 98s themselves. Though eager to claim the International Trap title, their only hope was for the Brian to slip up in the finals, lose his head and fall from his sudden state of grace.

There would be one last round. Twenty-five more shots for the top six shooters. They would have to be perfect and Brian would have to stumble. It was a lot to ask after already taking a 100 shots over the course of the day. But stumble he did.

St. Louis, Missouri - The Greater St. Louis Area Council of the BSA hosted a Shotgun Instructor class 24-26 February, 2012 at the Beaumont Scout Reservation in west St. Louis County.

Education is key to everything we do. Our parents enrolled us in elementary school so we would receive the education necessary to become good citizens and be self-reliant members of society. It is incumbent upon us to not only continue our education daily, but to make certain today’s youth are educated to best of our ability.

Simulators like Laser Shot can start new shooters on the right foot

Washington, DC - You never know where a new shooter is going to find their inspiration. Maybe their parents hunt. Maybe their friends spend their afternoons at the range. Or maybe they attend a convention where there's an NRA Laser Shot booth on site.

Such was the case earlier this month during the CPAC Convention at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC. While most approached the firing line with a touch of skepticism, many left with a sudden taste of confidence. Such was the case for Helene Lehr and Rashidah Burns. Taking time away from their studies at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, the two were both excited and reluctant as their turn at double trap Laser Shot approached.

Philip Schreier, Senior Curator for NRA's National Firearms Museum, was in Florida over the weekend for the 14th Annual Boy Scouts Sporting Clays Invitational at the South Florida Shooting Club — here's his report:

West Palm Beach, Florida - For the 14th year in a row, the Gulf Stream Council of the Boy Scouts of America hosted their invitational sporting clays event to raise money to benefit the programs of this south Florida scouting community.

The event was held at the spectacular facilities of the South Florida Shooting Club, a 25 million dollar shooting venue located on 650 acres just 45 minutes from West Palm Beach. This amazing shooting sports complex has 8 Trap fields, 3 fully automated Sporting Clays courses, 2 Skeet fields and a number of 5 Stand fields.

A number of stories went unmentioned in my Top 5 Stories of 2011 list. That was bound to happen. With the privilege of covering everything from the National Firearms Museum to NRA Law Enforcement to Competitive Shooting, there's more then enough material for a Top 50 list. With that in mind ... here are a few honorable mentions:

Joe Mantegna and Samantha Virk at Patrick Kilpatrick's 2011 Hollywood Celebrity Sporting Clays Invitational.

• The arrival of Petersen's Polar Bear. The Petersen Gallery opened in October of 2010, but the collection wasn't complete until the we finally found the perfect place to house the Polar Bear he shot with a Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum back in 1965.
• I know I made Tom Selleck's visit to the NRA my top story of the year, but I was more then thrilled to hear that Joe Mantegna would be at the National Firearms Museum shooting episodes of Michael Bane's Gun Stories. Joe was funny, down to earth and a great all around guy.
• Richard Childress purchased a hot rod 1950 Chevrolet pickup at the NRA Annual Meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina. After the purchase, the truck was returned to the donor for a few modifications and in the Spring of 2010, it was delivered to the Richard Childress Racing Museum in Welcome, North Carolina.
• Larry the Cable Guy also swung by the National Firearms Museum. Though I was unable to attend the festivities, Senior Curator Phil Scheier was on hand as fired off a few rounds of his new History Channel show Only in America.
• Sgt. Joseph Hein of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit returned to the National Rifle and Pistol Championships to claim his second Smallbore 3-Position title in three years. More
